The City of Taylor has been notified by Texas A&M Forest Service that it again meets the standards for designation as a Tree City USA, a program of The Arbor Day Foundation. It is the sixth year in a row for the award.
According the the ADF's website, the Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. They have achieved Tree City USA status by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management, which are to:
Texas A&M and its regional urban foresters complete the certification locally for ADF.
The City of Taylor holds its annual Arbor Day tree planting and ceremony each year in early November.
