Taylor earns 3rd place distinction for grassroots environmental programs

3rd place

The City of Taylor has been recognized as a third-place recipient of the Governor's Community Achievement Awards for 2017. The third-place Award of Excellence was received for achieving a score of 90 or higher on the application submitted by Keep Taylor Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful. Every year, the Keep Texas Beautiful organization partners with the Texas Department of Transportation for the Governor’s Community Achievement Awards program. Awards are distributed to first place recipients from over $2 million in funding from TxDOT across the 10 communities, with the amount based on population size. The funds are used for landscaping projects along local rights-of-way. A community's environmental program is judged on achievements in seven areas:  •Community Leadership and Coordination •Public Awareness •Education •Beautification and Community Improvement •Litter Prevention and Cleanup •Solid Waste Management •Litter Law and Illegal Dumping Enforcement The goal of the awards program is to recognize communities who are working diligently to create and sustain comprehensive environmental and beautification programs. The City of Taylor and Keep Taylor Beautiful participate and host numerous events throughout the year focusing on beautification and environmental upkeep including the City-Wide and Taylor Community Cleanups. Keep Taylor Beautiful is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to promoting public interest in environmental programs in Taylor including litter control, solid waste management, beautification and conservation of natural resources.
